2008 Main changes in the rules

Here is a short summary of the main changes in the 2008 rules:

  • 2.5 / Number of participants: The number of organizer wildcards has been reduced to 5 (it used to be 7).
  • 3.1 / Permit to fly: they are now valid until December 31st of the current year
  • 3.2 / Communication equipment / Radios : pilots can now be grounded if they do not folow the rules about radio
  • 15.1 / Task evidence - Source: IGC files are now accepted if they are digitally signed by the GPS unit itself.
  • 15.6 / Mandatory track-log: in order to benefit from leading bonus points, it is recommended to the pilots to have their full flight recorded.
  • 15.9 / GPS Models: USB based GPS are only accepted if they comply with the USB Mass Storage standard and IGC file format.
  • 16.2 / Penalties: no or bad number on glider > 100 points penalty per task

 

Changes in selections : The nation class table is now made using the first 3 pilots who scored in any World Cup event and the last FAI World Championship. The nation rating is computed with a factor of 2 for World Cup based results and 1 for FAI based results and the sum is scaled to 1000 points as before. These changes have been made to be fair with countries with pilots not taking part to all World Cup events. The result is here below:

Class 1
• World Cup Overall ranking 2006
• World Cup Events 2007 – 2008 with at least 2000 points sum for the task winners
• 2007 League & Championships : SWITZERLAND

Class 2
• World Cup Events 2007 – 2008 with at least 1000 points sum for the task winners
• 2007 League & Championships : FRANCE, CZECH REP., SLOVENIA, ITALY, AUSTRIA
• FAI World Championship 2007 (Australia)

Class 3
• World Cup Events 2006
• (World Cup Events 2007 – 2008 with less than 1000 points sum for the task winners)
• Pre-World Cups 2007: Italy (Vicenza & Poggio Bustone), Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Reunion Island, Peru
• Pre-World Cup 2008: Venezuela
• 2007 League & Championships : GERMANY, USA, KOREA, NORWAY, SPAIN, JAPAN (JPA)
• FAI Panamerican Championships 2008
• FAI European Championships 2006
• Nordic Open 2007

Class 4
• Pre-World Cups 2007: Colombia
• 2007 League & Championships : UK, RUSSIA, POLAND, INDIA, ARGENTINA, BRAZIL
• FAI Pre Worlds in Mexico 2008
• All Africa Open 2007

Class 5
• 2007 League & Championships : JAPAN (JHF), NETHERLANDS, AUSTRALIA, TURKEY, MEXICO, VENEZUELA, SWEDEN, MACEDONIA, BELGIUM, NEW ZEALAND, DENMARK, GREECE, CANADA, SOUTH AFRICA, CHILE, BULGARIA, SLOVAK REPUBLIC, PORTUGAL

Class 6
• 2007 League & Championships : HUNGARY, IRAN, LITUANIA, CROATIA, INDONESIA, FINLAND, COLOMBIA, KAZAKHSTAN, MOLDOVA (REPUBLIC OF)

Class 7 : any other country

Any League or Championships results based on only one task result, are devaluated by one class.

 

Rules 2007 are applied until rules 2008 are published.
